Overview

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Resource Development Operations, and in collaboration with BGCA Resource Development staff, the Manager, Prospect Research will have the responsibility for developing a national strategy for the Resource Development department  on identifying, qualification and prioritizing new prospects for BGCA and collaborative efforts with clubs.  This person will help develop and support research and lead dissemination and discussion of new prospect activity across the enterprise.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

 

1. Clubs and the BGCA National Fundraising Department

Generate & Lead prospect review meetings, and develop fundraising strategies with RD Club Consultants and BGCA fundraising staff as needed. 

Work in concert with BGCA Resource Development staff to ensure research and resources are aligned and developed in a way to support BGCA and collaborative fundraising efforts

Develop a national strategy for the Resource Development Department on identifying, qualification and prioritizing new prospects for BGCA and collaborative efforts with clubs, develop and support research and lead dissemination and discussion of new prospect activity across the enterprise

Provide guidance and direction to the Resource Development team on portfolio management and pipeline development best practices that can be utilized Movement-Wide

Working with the RD Club Consultants, assume primary responsibility for meeting the prospect identification and research needs of specifically assigned Clubs as requested

Conduct research using a variety of resources including the Internet, on-line services/databases, industry standard business and biographical directories, periodicals, electronic screening and other published materials

Estimate donor gift capacity and propensity through the analysis of individual, corporate, and foundation financial and philanthropic information, paying particular attention to the analysis of income statements, common forms of securities and other wealth indicator instruments as well as areas of philanthropic interest

Provide phone consultation as requested by RD Club Consultants to specific Clubs to assist them in understanding research on the collaborative prospect

 

2. Support Business Operations

Serve as a productive member of Resource Development Operations and Collaborative Services team and other BGCA departments

Conduct and/or participate in state, regional, and national staff meetings and conferences

Lead special projects or national assignments as required by Senior Director, RD Operations

Safeguard the confidentiality of donor information, upholding BGCA's policies regarding confidentiality and operating in compliance with standards of Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA)

Demonstrate BGCA mission driven values of integrity, excellence and inclusion and integrate into work environment and ways of work

 

Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA's Employee Handbook, Ethics Policy, I-CARE Values and elsewhere.

 

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Minimum of 7 years successful experience in direct prospect research, tracking, data analysis, or related development area. Demonstrated experience implementing and managing a prospect management and tracking system. Experience working with Major Gift Officers on research evaluations. Demonstrated successful experience developing and maintaining vendor relationships.

Demonstrated successful experience producing management metric reports. Demonstrated knowledge of industry standard sources of data (e.g. WealthEngine, LexisNexis, Dataquick, SEC, Hoovers, BoardEx, Zillow, wealth screening databases). Demonstrated ability to conduct electronic wealth screenings and interpret results data for fundraising staff.

Preferred experience designing and implementing webinars and in-person trainings. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, Skype, Adobe Connect, GoToMeeting/Webinar or other web collaboration and eLearning tools. Preferred knowledge of database CRM systems such as Raiser's Edge,, DonorPerfect, eTapestry, Salesforce, etc.

 

Abilities

High energy level, comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities, good reasoning abilities, sound judgment and the ability to work under time pressures. Physical requirements include sight, hearing, sitting for more than four hours a day and other physical requirements required performing the essential functions of this position.

Normal Office Environment

Travel estimated at 10% required (can be 2-4 days or more in a month – including weekends - depending upon scheduling requirements).
