Overview

Under the limited direction of and in collaboration with the Vice President, Finance, the Finance Director will lead/support forecasting, planning, reporting, & analysis for the organization. Additionally, this individual will lead special projects (cost out, cost/benefit, etc.), as assigned. The Finance Director will supervise the Financial Analyst(s) as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead/Support the preparation of the annual budgets.
  • Lead and coordinate the preparation and analysis of the Long Range Plan, Monthly Expense Forecast, and Monthly Cash flow forecast.
  • Lead creation of presentation covering various financial analysis and interpretations for executive-level audience (incl. Board of Governors).
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analyses and reports to Executive Leadership.
  • Drive improvements to financial modeling where applicable (New models build, improvement of current models, etc.).
  • Conduct training, when necessary, to develop talent and ensure clarity of understanding of the financial principles.
  • Drive continuous improvement and automation of systems and processes that support financial analysis and reporting.
  • Provide direction and supervision to the Financial Analyst focusing on building a strong team and relationship within the department and with other departments as required.
  • Develop, coordinate and consolidate financial forecasts and report on expense trends as required.
  • Lead special projects (i.e. cost out, cost/benefit analysis, etc.). as assigned
  • Handle other Ad-hoc projects and analysis / other duties as assigned.
  • Liaise and provide guidance to department budgets stakeholders.
  • Provide overall financial direction in the area of managing Federal & Non-Federal grants as required.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of systems, policies and procedures and make appropriate recommendations to ensure efficiency of daily operations relating to financial analysis & reporting.

GENERAL

  • Ensure Vice President, Finance and other senior leaders are informed and up-to-date on all staffing and financial issues and provide feedback regarding workflow and efficiency of processes for the financial planning and analysis department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Finance.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

•             This position will supervise a financial analyst position, in addition to possibly supervising temporary employees or interns.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum five to seven years of related accounting experience required, in a nonprofit environment strongly preferred.  Minimum three years supervisory experience. 

SKILLS

  • Exceptional organization and prioritization skills are essential. Must have the ability to independently manage multi-task complex assignments. Demonstrated skills in the preparation and analysis of financial reports for nonprofit organizations. Expertise in budgeting and reporting.  Working knowledge of AICPA and FASB pronouncements in relation to all nonprofit accounting operating procedures and principles.  Good organizational and time management skills. High degree of familiarity with and ability to use computerized accounting systems and office machines. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Superior management and professional interpersonal abilities.  Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, flexible.  Good reasoning abilities, analytical skills, and sound judgment.  Ability to apply evaluation, data collection, and analysis tools. Physical requirements include: sight, hearing, sitting for four plus hours per day, standing and stooping.
