Under direction of the National Director, Executive Development Services, the Director, Executive Development is responsible for contributing to the design, development, implementation, evaluation and support of the Executive Leadership Development Initiative for the Boys & Girls Clubs Movement. The goals of the Executive Leadership Development Initiative are to significantly upgrade the professional and board leadership capacity in Boys & Girls Clubs to increase the impact and resource development efforts of the Club.


Develop Strategy

  • Contribute to the design and execution of a comprehensive leadership development program for local executives across Boys and Girls Clubs’ Movement.
  • Design systems, tools and processes necessary for BGCA’s Organizational and Executive Development Services staff to provide effective ongoing coaching and support to local executives.
  • Research ongoing trends and shifts in leadership development, resource development and board governance and make appropriate recommendations for program design.
  • Partner with other Organizational and Executive Development Services units to provide customized programming and support.

Develop Executive Talent

  • Develop and implement a standard Chief Executive Officer (CEO) hiring and onboarding process, including New Executive Orientation and Executive Coaching for new CEOs.
  • Develop, customize and deliver the Advanced Leadership Program for a variety of Club sizes and types in a variety of formats.
  • Develop ongoing learning opportunities in the Mastery and Legacy Levels of Spillett Leadership University for Chief Executive Officers.
  • Implement a Peer Coaching Network for new and experienced Chief Executive Officers, including training materials, protocols, and ongoing evaluation.
  • Develop partnerships with The Professional Association (TPA) and other associations to support executive coaching initiative.

Build Organizational Capacity

  • Develop standard methodologies, tools and resources to assist Directors, Organizational Development, in organizational development efforts, including strategic planning process, annual continuous improvement process, uniform performance management system, succession planning, team building and development of Executive Leadership Development plans for Chief Executive Officers.
  • Build the capacity of Directors, Organizational Development to deliver and facilitate core elements of the executive leadership development strategy
  • Develop and implement a standard Chief Volunteer Officer Academy.
  • Plan, design, develop content, and help coordinate Regional Leadership Conferences.
  • Support the planning, design, development of content, and coordination of the National Conference.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of promising and best practices on organizational development.
  • Promote child safety priorities and resources to local organization within the scope of this position; report any observed or suspected child safety concerns directly to the organization’s leadership and to the appropriate BGCA senior leader.


Manage Business Operations of Service

  • Promote and market the Executive Leadership Development Initiative to the Boys & Girls Clubs Movement, internally and externally, to assure understanding and a high level of participation.
  • Create systems to evaluate and measure progress and impact of the Executive Leadership Development Initiative in order to provide continuous information for design innovation.
  • Conduct and/or participate in state, regional, and national staff meetings and conferences
  • Lead special projects or national assignments as required by National Director, Executive Development or other Sr Leaders in Organizational and Executive Development Services.
  • Demonstrate BGCA mission driven I-CARE values, and integrate these beliefs into our environment and ways of work Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA’s Employee Handbook, Ethics Policy and elsewhere.

No direct Reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of temporary employees and student interns


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the area of human resource development, organizational development, organizational behavior or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in the Organizational Development field, with Boys & Girls Clubs of America experience preferred. At least five years’ experience as a professional trainer/facilitator and outcome-driven curriculum development in the areas of executive, board and resource development. Demonstrated ability to engage, motivate and support learning of senior leaders and volunteer professionals.

Must be physically able to travel by air, car, train, or other modes of transportation.
