    Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is seeking a Director, Digital Learning to join the Strategic Leadership Development team. Reporting to the Senior Director, Learning Strategies, the Director, Digital Learning will design, develop, deliver and evaluate innovative, instructionally-sound, performance-based digital learning assets for over 300,000 staff and volunteers across the more than 4,200 Clubs that define the BGCA federated model of impact.


    The successful candidate will partner with BGCA colleagues and vendors to effectively implement world class, scalable digital learning solutions aligned with the organizational vision and core values. He/She will ensure industry and adult learning standards are reflected in the creation of new and revised learning objects delivered via diverse learning modalities and technologies. Standards will include, but will not be limited to: asynchronous and synchronous distance learning courses, best practice guidelines, templates, performance support aids, online tutorials, gaming modules, and mobile applications.


    The ideal candidate possesses a high level of technical expertise in the areas of digital learning design and development, including VILT.  Advanced knowledge and experience with course authoring software packages, such as Adobe Presenter, Captivate and Articulate 360, are preferred. Proficient usage of learning management systems, preferably Cornerstone onDemand is essential.  HTML5 and SCORM packaging and publication experience are desired.  This role has responsibility for managing project based budgets, regular stakeholder interaction and reporting.


    Essential Functions


    • Provide leadership to the design, development, implementation and evaluation of digital learning solutions to support the fulfillment of BGCA’s strategic plan and ongoing trends and shifts in leadership and professional development.
    • Collaborate and communicate with BGCA colleagues to continually scan the environment for opportunities to actualize digital learning outputs to strengthen Movement-wide performance and capacity.
    • Conducts needs analysis and applies industry standard practices for designing solutions that are effective in achieving learner knowledge acquisition and skill development and measurable business impact.
    • Lead and execute the orderly production of asynchronous digital solutions, including content layout, information architecture, and nonlinear navigation, programming, and testing in the production environment.
    • Provide leadership to the execution of synchronous VILT efforts offered via courses and or virtual conferences.
    • Provide leadership to the development of digital learning standards, guidelines and practices to support blended, synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences that meet customer needs and support the strategic goals and initiative of BGCA.
    • Lead the execution, evaluation and reporting of comprehensive virtual learning solutions and initiatives for more than 300,000 staff and volunteers across the more than 4,200 Clubs that define the BGCA federated model of impact.
    • Identify vendor solutions and maintain vendor relationships to ensure the design and development of engaging digital learning assets. 
    • Marshal necessary resources, plans strategically and manages one or multiple projects simultaneously, including teams and third-party contractors and/or consultants.
    • Show a strong command of digital learning products, services and trends, regularly benchmarking the initiatives of peer providers to ensure that all virtual training and initiatives are best in class in the field of youth development.
    • Maintain and continually expand knowledge of new learning approaches, technologies and tools through ongoing research and experimentation.

     Supervision Exercised

    • No direct reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of temporary employees and interns.


    Education and Experience 



    • BA or BS degree in a field such as instructional technology and educational technology.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of current adult learning theories and principles applicable to online instruction.
    • A minimum of five years of experience in designing, developing and publishing e-learning solutions for delivery via learning management systems.
    • A minimum of five years expertise in multi-media asset development with advanced expertise with HTML5, SCORM Packaging Standards and eLearning development tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe: Captivate, Presenter, Photoshop/Illustrator and Animate.
    • Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and virtual delivery platforms, such as: Adobe Connect, GoToWebinar, and Skype for Business.          


    • Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field.
    • Knowledge of LMS workflows, including beta/alpha/usability testing and eLearning distribution with Cornerstone OnDemand experience.
    • Experience with Tin Can and XML is highly preferred.
    • BASIC to Intermediate experience with Javascript.

    • Must have good reasoning abilities and sound judgment. 
    • Physical requirements include sight, hearing, sitting for four plus hours per day.  Must be physically able to travel by air, car, train, or other modes of transportation. 

    Environmental & Working Conditions

    • Normal internal working environment.
    • Approximately 5 - 10% travel (can be on weekends – depending on scheduling requirements).

    The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country by using a map or other direction methods.
