  • Overview

    Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Assistant Director is responsible for strategic marketing and communications efforts aligned with BGCA’s premier initiatives – Academic Success (inclusive of STEM), and Healthy Lifestyles. These efforts aim to advance the organization’s brand equity and establish BGCA as a leading advocate for youth, specific to these areas of focus. This position is also responsible for delivering marketing & communications value to identified corporate partners that sponsor these initiatives.




    Marketing & Communications

    • Demonstrate strong knowledge of marketing and communications with an expertise in tactical execution
    • Support BGCA’s marketing strategy and plan to advance the brand, demonstrate the impact of the Club experience and position BGCA as an expert in the youth development space
    • Support strategic marketing efforts on behalf of BGCA and corporate partnerships ensuring brand consistency and message in all external-facing marketing and communication efforts
    • Oversee implementation of strategic marketing plans including but not limited to advocacy, public relations, event management, social and digital, storytelling, branding and advertising efforts
    • Oversee efforts to scale and localize marketing activities for successful implementation within a federated model
    • Supports execution of annual plans and campaigns to elevate visibility of identified initiatives and Movement-facing marketing plans
    • Academic Success: Under the leadership of the Director of Marketing– Academic Success, support execution of annual marketing and communication plan to elevate Boys & Girls Clubs as a leading provider of after school programming that supports youth success in academics, with an emphasis on the arts and STEM.
    • Healthy Lifestyles: Under the leadership of the Director of Marketing– Healthy Lifestyles, support execution of annual marketing and communication plan to elevate Boys & Girls Clubs as a leading provider of after school programming that enables youth to lead a healthy lifestyle, inclusive of physical activities, nutrition, sports and recreation, and access to health services.


    • Responsible for supporting marketing efforts related to corporate partnerships, sponsorships and strategic alliances
    • Supports execution for premier partnerships
    • Leads strategy and planning, and manages execution of deliverables for identified partnerships
    • Successfully executes partnership marketing plans to drive mutually beneficial objectives
    • Deliver excellence for identified sponsorships to ensure continued and increased support for mission
    • Activate partnerships to advance the BGCA brand marketing efforts
    • Ensure fulfillment of identified partner contracts and deliverables
    • Support reporting and budget management for assigned corporate partnerships

    Leadership and Collaboration:

    • Provide marketing counsel and guidance to internal and external stakeholders
    • Interface with internal and external stakeholders such as BGCA staff, Clubs, corporate partners, strategic alliances and others
    • Work collaboratively with corporate partners to develop and execute marketing plans and activate assets
    • Stay current on data, trends, competitive landscape and best practices related to marketing, public relations, social and digital media and youth development

    Support Business Operations:

    • Participate on cross-functional project teams
    • Demonstrate strong dedication to being a good steward of budget and donor dollars
    • Demonstrate BGCA mission driven values of integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence
    • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA’s Employee Handbook, Ethics Policy and elsewhere




    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, business administration and/or similar degree preferred
    • Minimum of 3-7 years of experience
    • Understanding of both marketing and communications functions
    • Strong tactical excellence leading integrated marketing and communications campaigns
    • Understanding of marketing strategy; ability and interest to grow in strategic acumen
    • Proven success producing high quality marketing activities that deliver upon identified goals on-time and on-budget
    • Proven track record in managing through complex issues to desired outcome
    • Strong ability to manage multiple projects, timelines and budgets with a commitment to high quality and attention to detail
    • Demonstrated success driving cross-functional teams toward completion of a project or common goal
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook)


    Normal internal office environment.  Travel estimated at 20% (can be up to 3-5 days or more in a month, including weekends, depending upon scheduling requirements).  The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country or abroad by using a map or other direction methods.  Ability to travel by car, airplane or other modes of transportation required.


    Ability to carry out detailed and complex instructions; ability to interact with coworkers and public by telephone and in person as a member of a team to provide services to customers, both external and internal; ability to perform a variety of duties and to prioritize tasks to meet organizational needs.  Ability to clearly and concisely exchange ideas, facts and/or technical information and guidance in person, by telephone, email, fax or correspondence.  Physical requirements include: sight, hearing, sitting for four + hours a day, standing for one to two+ hours a day, stooping; skills essential for successful communications include speaking, writing and reading comprehension.
