  • Overview

    Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Assistant Director is responsible for strategic marketing and communications efforts aligned with BGCA’s premier initiatives – Academic Success (inclusive of STEM), and Healthy Lifestyles. These efforts aim to advance the organization’s brand equity and establish BGCA as a leading advocate for youth, specific to these areas of focus. This position is also responsible for delivering marketing & communications value to identified corporate partners that sponsor these initiatives.



    1. Marketing & Communications
    • Drives integrated marketing communications efforts by delivering expert-level tactical execution and project management for campaigns and initiatives
    • Supports integrated marketing strategy to advance the brand, demonstrates the impact of the Club experience and positions BGCA as an expert in the youth development space
    • Leads implementation of integrated marketing plans to meet identified objectives that include (but are not limited to) public relations, events, social and digital, storytelling/content development, brand, advocacy and advertising efforts; Role includes both leading execution of activities and managing internal and external partners/vendors to oversee execution of activities (as determined by project scope)
    • Supports efforts to scale and localize marketing activities for successful implementation within a federated model
    • Ensures brand consistency and messaging in all external-facing marketing and communication efforts
    • Stays current on data, trends, competitive landscape and best practices related to marketing communications and youth development
    • Provides integrated marketing counsel and guidance to internal and external stakeholders
    • Specific to role:

    - Academic Success: Under the leadership of the Director of Marketing – Academic Success, this role aids in elevating our brand and positioning our leadership within the academic achievement space, which includes STEM and the Arts. This includes activation and recognition of partnerships and sponsorships who support this work.

    - Healthy Lifestyles: Under the leadership of the Director of Marketing – Healthy Lifestyles, this role aids in elevating our brand and positioning our leadership within the health and wellness space, which includes sports and play, nutrition, and whole child health. This includes activation and recognition of partnerships and sponsorships who support this work.


    2. Partnerships
    • Supports development and execution of annual partnership marketing plans to achieve mutually beneficial objectives for identified sponsorships and strategic alliances within the academic success and healthy lifestyles portfolio
    • Ensures fulfillment of identified sponsorship contracts and executes deliverables with excellence to ensure continued and increased support for mission
    • Identifies and acts upon opportunities to activate partnerships and deliver greater value to the brand and sponsorships
    • Works collaboratively with internal teams, partners teams and vendors to meet stated objectives
    • Supports fundraising and development efforts to secure new partnerships and renew relationships within identified portfolio
    • Supports marketing reporting for assigned corporate partnerships


    3. Organizational Leadership
    • Interfaces with internal and external stakeholders such as BGCA staff, Clubs, corporate partners, strategic alliances and others
    • Demonstrates strong dedication to being a good steward of financial resources
    • Demonstrates BGCA mission-driven values of integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence
    • Participates in additional projects and initiatives as assigned
    • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA’s Employee Handbook, Ethics Policy and elsewhere


    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, business administration and/or similar degree preferred
    • Minimum of 3-7 years of experience
    • Understanding of both marketing and communications functions
    • Strong tactical excellence leading integrated marketing and communications campaigns
    • Understanding of marketing strategy; ability and interest to grow in strategic acumen
    • Proven success producing high quality marketing activities that deliver upon identified goals on-time and on-budget
    • Proven track record in managing through complex issues to desired outcome
    • Strong ability to manage multiple projects, timelines and budgets with a commitment to high quality and attention to detail
    • Demonstrated success driving cross-functional teams toward completion of a project or common goal
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook)

Physical requirements include sight, sitting for four plus hours a day, stooping; skills essential for successful communications including speaking and writing.


    • Normal internal office environment. Travel estimated at 20% (can be up to 3-5 days or more in a month, including weekends, depending upon scheduling requirements). The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country or abroad by using a map or other direction methods. Ability to travel by car, airplane or other modes of transportation required.
    • Ability to carry out detailed and complex instructions; ability to interact with coworkers and public by telephone and in person as a member of a team to provide services to customers, both external and internal; ability to perform a variety of duties and to prioritize tasks to meet organizational needs. Ability to clearly and concisely exchange ideas, facts and/or technical information and guidance in person, by telephone, email, fax or correspondence. Physical requirements include: sight, hearing, sitting for four + hours a day, standing for one to two+ hours a day, stooping; skills essential for successful communications include speaking, writing and reading comprehension.
