  • Overview

    The DOD Military International helps to establish and build strong BGCA-affiliated organizations (overseas), in collaboration with military leaders, installation commanders, and BGCA staff and resources.  The International Director provides supervision, direction, and training to the International Consultants and/ or international Directors, Organizational Development in military services. The position is responsible for initiating and providing consultation and support services to member organizations in the Out of the Continental United States (OCONUS); working in partnership with international organizations to build and grow their capacity to have the greatest mission impact on youth; implementing consultation services which expand the Boys & Girls Club Movement; and interpreting the goals and objectives of Boys & Girls Clubs of America to member organizations.

     

    The International Director, Military Services (International Affiliates) will interpret the goals and objectives of Boys & Girls Clubs of America to member organizations and provide support for all Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s services.

    Responsibilities

    Support Strategic Growth and Increase Impact

    • Work in conjunction with National Vice President, Military & Outreach Services to develop Military & Outreach services strategies and consultative services for International consultants, and (OCONUS)/assigned member organizations to increase average daily attendance, overall membership and teen recruitment, membership and retention.
    • Provide direction and support to communities in primed for growth through innovative initiatives and collaborations.
    • Assist Clubs to increase the overall Club Experience.
    • In collaboration with the Military & Outreach Services leadership ensure and monitor equitable distribution of BGCA’s pass through funds and resources available in the Military & Outreach Services unit.
    • Oversee the coordination and implementation of the assignments international Affiliates to consultants/assigned Directors of Organizational Development.
    • Promote the use of BGCA national programs.
    • Provide on-site and off-site support and technical assistance to communities assuring the establishment of new, self-sustaining Boys & Girls Club sites in assigned service area in accordance with BGCA requirements for membership.
    • Serve as primary point of contact for international member organizations and BGCA.
    • Assist assigned organizations in developing and implementing a programmatic outcome-driven Club experience and measurement strategy with daily data that drives the Formula for Impact.
    • Assist international Affiliates in analyzing internal and external data to create plans and strategies to increase participation and retention of members.
    • Assist international organizations in developing leaders at all levels of the organization.

    Increase Organizational Capabilities

    • Provide direction, training, supervision, as well as participate in the evaluation of international consultants, Military & Outreach Services (International-Affiliates) and other staff as assigned by the National Vice President, Military & Outreach Services.
    • Monitor international Organizational Annual Plans and targeted projects.  
    • Provide consultation services when necessary with the placement process of Chief Executive Officers within Boys & Girls Club organizations in the Military & Outreach Service Unit.
    • Provide consultation services in partnership with international Club leaders/assigned organizations in strategic planning to facilitate organizational advancements, including, but not limited to assisting Clubs implementing growth strategies.
    • Strategize and diagnose the provision of technical support services and coordinate the use of field consultants, technical consultants, and the delivery of services by various BGCA departments to designated member Boys & Girls Clubs in assigned service area.
    • Engage in positive partnerships with member organizations in the Military & Outreach Services Unit and promote a culture of legendary customer service and highest ethical standards.
    • Institute relationships with new Chief Executive Officers in assigned service area and conduct orientations on services and resources available from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
    • Identify future Movement leaders and provide ongoing career consultation and support as needed.

    Provide Accountable Leadership to BGCA-Affiliated Organizations

    • In collaboration with the National Vice President of Military & Outreach Services, assure and monitor the compliance of BGCA membership requirements and operating standards with member organizations in the region.
    • Immediately report all crisis situations to the National Vice President Military & Outreach Services
    • Serve as a key member of the Military & Outreach Services leadership team.
    • As requested, provide updates to the Joint Services leadership during Joint Service meetings.

    Support Operation of Service – Business Operations

    • Work with National Vice President M&OS to coordinate weekly team calls and quarterly in person business reviews.
    • Conduct and/or participate in international conferences as needed.
    • Participate in weekly meetings with the National Vice President, Military & Outreach Services
    • Provide leadership and developmental opportunities for international Military Directors of Organizational Development (Consultants)
    • Assist National Vice President, Military and Outreach Services with an international strategy to help organizations develop a deeper understanding of resource development required to raise diverse resources to achieve strategic goals.
    • Assist National Vice President, Military and Outreach Services to hire, train, supervise, evaluate and develop assigned international staff/consultants according to BGCA’s policies and procedures and appropriate Human Resources staff as indicated.
    • Lead special projects or national assignments as required by National Vice President, Military and Outreach Services.
    • Ensure proper onboarding of new staff/consultants.
    • ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Promote and protect the BGCA brand.
    • Guide and support organizations in the Military & Outreach Services Unit in the advancement of BGCA’s strategy/national priorities. 
    • Promote the unit brand with Regional Vice Presidents and other departments within BGCA.
    • Guide, support and help build the Military & Outreach Service team in the accomplishment of the unit’s goals and objectives.
    • Assist with other projects and assignments as requested by National Vice President Military & Outreach Services and National Director, Military & Outreach Services
    • Demonstrate BGCA mission driven I*CARE values, and integrate these beliefs into our environment and ways of work.
    • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA's Employee Handbook, Ethics Policy and elsewhere.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED

    • Direct supervisory responsibility over Directors of Organizational Development for International Affiliates

     

    Qualifications

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education/experience equivalency.
    • Experience: Minimum of seven years’ experience in the management, administration and operation of a Boys & Girls Club (or similar organization).
    • Skills: Demonstrated competence in written and verbal communication skills; data analysis, managing databases, consultation and diagnosis; demonstrated high standards of ethics and integrity; supervision and management skills; non-profit organizational planning and budgeting; negotiation and consensus building skills; strong interpersonal and human relations skills; successful
    • Normal internal working environment.
    • Approximately 60-75% travel.
    • The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country by using a map or other direction methods.
