    As Boys & Girls Clubs of America launches its Great Futures 2025 Strategic Plan and the priorities within, the Youth Development Programs team seeks an action-oriented, nimble learner that possesses a deep understanding of youth development theory and subject-matter expertise in Health & Wellness, demonstrating an ability to translate related research into practice for the 4,300 local Clubs in the Boys & Girls Club Movement to improve program quality.

     

    The Director, Youth Development Programs will have strategic and operational responsibility for programs and content-based assets in the Health & Wellness portfolio. The position will be responsible for curriculum design, training design, and all content development for Health & Wellness programs and initiatives.  Under limited supervision from the Senior Director, Youth Development Programs, the Director will implement the development of a national program model and alignment strategy to ensure the integration of youth experiences, staff practices, programmatic structure, types of programs, and the professional development of staff function cohesively to support whole-child development and youth outcomes. The Director will serve as a content expert in the development of systems and tactics to align program curricula, content-based assets, supporting resources and training materials. The Director will work within and across program content areas to ensure synthesis and integration of consistent frameworks, approaches and practices.

     

    Program and Content Development

    • The Director, Youth Development Programs, under limited supervision from the Senior Director, Youth Development, will be responsible for the development and implementation of high quality developmentally-appropriate and culturally-relevant youth program model assets that increase quality and drive youth outcomes in an assigned core program content area.
    • S/he will integrate youth development standards, complementary of the program model, to address and improve physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development; corresponding youth experiences essential to outcomes related to Health & Wellness for youth ages 6-18; and strategies to strengthen systems that promote well-being.
    • Lead the development of curricula and content-based asset instructional design, scope and sequence, and content; integrate positive youth development, social and emotional development, and domain-specific skills to drive outcomes.
    • Inform the development of and lead the implementation of systems to identify and provide training and technical assistance to Clubs to support local program implementation in Health & Wellness and related fields.
    • Lead the implementation of affinity groups in key content areas.
    • Lead and support thought leadership opportunities in Health & Wellness and related fields
    • Develop assets to support fundraising nationally and at the local level.
    • Maintain high-level expertise in the areas of high quality youth development, subject matter expertise in fields of Health & Wellness, and instructional design and training best practices to ensure the effective translation and application to Boys & Girls Clubs.

    Portfolio Development and Alignment

    The Director, Youth Development Programs will:

    • Inform the design of and implement a system for delineating the cadence for content updates, including curricula, curriculum additions, (e.g., supplementary sessions, dialogue series, etc.), training, and program model content.
    • Work within and across content areas and assets to ensure alignment and consistency of portfolios, strategies, assets, approaches and practices.
    • Inform the development of and manage Models of Excellence in the assigned core content area to curate, codify, and replicate practices that support high-quality experiences for kids and teens and practices that demonstrate growth in Club experience.
    • Support a portfolio of multi-million dollar public/private-sector contracts, ensuring timely and quality delivery of project goals and objectives.

    Strategy Integration

    The Director, Youth Development Programs will:

    • Partner with Resource Development and Government Relations teams to develop a funding strategy and corresponding concept papers, within the scope and context of the assigned core program area, to support funding streams and retain and/or pivot existing funding partners to meet the priorities of the Great Futures 2025 Strategic Direction.
    • Partner with Native and Military Services to integrate culturally-specific best practices in content-based assets.
    • Partner with Youth Development Operations to support strategy realization, grants management, and communications and engagement.
    • Partner with Planning & Measurement to inform the design and implementation of program evaluation in Health & Wellness.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED

    • No direct Reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of temporary employees and student interns.

     

    Responsibilities

    Youth Development/Programs 

    • Demonstrates subject matter expertise in positive youth development research and practice; has content expertise in Health & Wellness and related disciplines; has content expertise in the cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs of youth and the ages and stages of youth development.
    • Understands the life cycle of program development and evaluation; can apply and translate knowledge to a Boys & Girls Club setting.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in instructional design.

     

    Research and Writing 

    • Demonstrates a strong command of national education, out-of-school time, and youth development approaches, best practices, domains and trends
    • Has facility reading primary literature and synthesizing and translating key findings to various assets and stakeholders
    • Demonstrates an exceptional ability to write content-based assets for diverse audiences (e.g., translational resources, thought leadership pieces, resource guides, user-friendly field resources, etc.)

    Club Operations

    • Demonstrates an understanding and application of insights related to local Club operations.
    • Develops systems to support local Club implementation of National programs.

    • Demonstrates the ability to navigate and translate organizational culture, systems and processes to develop and advance strategies and products 
    • Strategically aligns projects and products to broader organizational goals; breaks down objectives into appropriate initiatives and actions

    • Builds and manages internal and external BGCA partnerships in the identification and alignment of youth skills, outcomes and program design and deliverables 
    • Assists with foundation, corporate, government, and other donor-based proposals, grant writing, and reporting that enhances the portfolio across core program areas 
    • Works across core program areas to identify, map and align youth skills to outcomes within and across programs domains

Ability to clearly and concisely exchange ideas, facts and/or technical information and guidance in person, by telephone, email, fax or correspondence.  Physical requirements include: sight, hearing, sitting for four + hours a day, standing for one to two + hours a day, stooping; skills essential for successful communications include speaking, writing and reading comprehension.

    Normal internal office environment.  Travel estimated at 25%. The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country or abroad by using a map or other direction methods.  Ability to travel by car, airplane or other modes of transportation required.

    Qualifications

    education and experience

    • Bachelors or Masters degree in Education, Youth Development, Organizational Change Management, Social Work, Sociology, Developmental Psychology, Public Health or related field required. Advanced degree(s) in related areas preferred.
    • Minimum three years of experience, with progressive responsibility in youth development, instructional design, training and technical assistance, research evaluation and assessment, strategic consulting, corporate responsibility, brand management, social work, public health or related discipline is required.
    • Strong background in youth development, organizational change management, public health, systems strengthening, resource development, and strategic leadership.
    • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
