  • Overview

    The Managing Director,  Planning & Measurement provides management and coordination in the development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of BGCA’s strategic and operational plans.


    The Managing Director, is responsible for helping to shape operational plans to ensure alignment to the overall strategic direction of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, coordinating project planning and management across the organization, guiding execution of key strategic projects, and assessing performance of specific initiatives and overall progress towards goals.

    The Managing Director, Planning & Measurement is responsible for data strategy, measurement tools and analyses that enable continuous monitoring and evaluation of mission and national office performance. The Managing Director is responsible for producing the insights that will inform our strategic direction and resource allocation to meet near- and long-term goals.


    Strategy and Business Insights

    • In partnership with Information Technology, lead the overall business intelligence strategy for the organization
    • Lead analysis of data to assess progress, guide decision-making and support organizational planning
    • Ensure all measurement and evaluation projects align with the strategic plan

    Planning and Project Management

    • In collaboration with the CEO, Senior Vice President, and other Boys & Girls Clubs of America services, assist in developing the annual BGCA operational plan and aligned departmental plans, including identification of specific initiatives and definition of key performance indicators
    • Develop tools and processes for portfolio and project management
    • Monitor, support and report on the execution of project plans across the organization
    • Lead a cross-departmental planning and operations council to ensure consistent and high-quality execution of all key projects outlined in the annual operational plan, and that cross-department dependencies are identified for all initiatives

    Data Systems and Measurement

    • In collaboration with the Senior Vice President, and other Boys & Girls Clubs of America services, create and manage a 3-5 year plan for the collection and use of operational and outcomes data from BGCA and Boys & Girls Clubs across the country
    • In partnership with BGCA Information Technology, lead the design and maintenance of technical solutions for all aspects of data collection, reporting and business intelligence applications to enhance business decision making capabilities
    • In partnership with the Chief Operations Officer and Field Operations leadership, provide regular updates and projections on key mission and field operations metrics, and ensure that BGCA's field consultants have timely data and analytics to provide consultations and interventions to Clubs based on their current performance
    • Develop and manage appropriate, strategic partnerships that will enhance BGCA’s position as a leader in measurement and data use
    • Streamline data systems to reduce burden of updating, reduce redundancies, and make data more accessible
    • Lead the development and stewardship of data governance protocols and processes
    • Promote and/or emphasize the critical importance of data and learning to Boys & Girls Clubs of America
    • Lead the creation of data tools and training to support data literacy and build a data driven culture

    Management and Supervision

    • As assigned, lead the execution of projects, ensuring all deliverables have met or exceed expectations and financial/budgetary reports are tracked and   within financial parameters
    • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate and develop assigned staff according to BGCA’s policies and procedures, ensuring the overall smooth functioning of the assigned staff, and consulting appropriate Human Resources staff as indicated
    • Establish professional development plans for all staff



    • Work closely with Resource Development to provide data and information to support current and potential funding of services, programs, research and evaluations locally and nationally
    • Participate on cross-functional project teams, as required
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President, Youth Development
    • Demonstrate BGCA mission driven values of integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence and integrate into work environment and ways of work
    • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate and develop staff according to BGCA’s policies and procedures, consulting with Human Resources staff as indicated.
    • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA's Employee Handbook, Ethics Policy and elsewhere.


    SUPERVISION EXERCISED - Direct management responsibility for the Planning and Measurement team.



    • The ideal candidate will have experience in consulting, business intelligence, strategic planning, problem solving, project management and continuous improvement, with 10 or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience. The Senior Leader Planning & Measurement must have excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, and excel at simplifying complex concepts. 
    • Advanced degree in business, education, or related discipline
    • Minimum of ten years of experience of progressively responsible leadership experience
    • Advanced level of analytical and problem solving skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
