Boys & Girls Clubs of America named "One of the Best Nonprofits to Work for in 2017, 2018 and 2019"

Boys & Girls Clubs of America is the nation's premier youth development organization. Our programs, training and services impact nearly 4 million children and teens every year. We are always looking for qualified professionals with a passion for improving young lives, as a member of our national staff.  We have strong values, embrace diversity and offer great benefits to allow our employees to maintain work/life balance.

The Measurement & Insights department collects and analyzes data and supports BGCA and Boys & Girls Club organizations in using data to achieve their goals, measure and increase their impact, and drive increased revenue. The team assists with BGCA’s annual and long-term planning, as well as managing several mission-critical data collection and outcome measurement processes

Learning Outcomes:

• How to manage projects, working across BGCA departments and Clubs across the country
• How to analyze quantitative operational data as well as qualitative survey data
• How to promote understanding and utilization of data resources by Club and BGCA staff
• How to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team on data analysis, interpretation, use and communication functions

Possible Projects:

Annual Report Survey Quality Assurance Testing

The Annual Report Survey collects key operational information from Club organizations. All Club organizations affiliated with BGCA must submit an Annual Report Survey. It provides Movement-wide scope-of-service statistics to current and potential donors and partners. It supports effective BGCA and Club planning and decision-making by highlighting trends and providing Benchmark and Key Performance indicator (KPI) reports.

  • Help research and identify potential AI tools that can be incorporated in the data reporting process to reduce the time needed for quality assurance testing and human error.
  • Develop new, and revise existing, resources to guide BGCA staff through the quality assurance and user acceptance testing procedures to reduce time to deployment.

Planning Survey Analysis

The Planning Survey is a bi-annual survey consisting of questions from various BGCA departments, conducted once each April for Club CEOs and once each October for Club Directors. The intent of the Planning Survey is to reduce the number of surveys sent to Club professionals throughout the year by BGCA staff. Questions submitted for inclusion should be only those that will yield data that is essential for reaching department objectives.

  • Assist with data analysis and reporting of the Spring Planning Survey.
  • Help present findings from data analysis in meaningful ways to different audiences such as BGCA staff, local Clubs, and funders.
  • Support data interpretation to inform departmental strategy.

Survey Centralization

Surveys are an important tool for BGCA to collect feedback from Club Professionals, CEOs and Boards; for conducting research or evaluations; and for collecting information for quality assurance and strategic management purposes. As BGCA has matured, and digital technology has improved, surveys have become increasingly prevalent as means of gathering data from large cohorts of Club Professionals, CEOs or Boards. Survey centralization aims to minimize the risks of over-surveying and to promote a consistent and transparent methodology for the centralization of Club, CEO or Board surveys.

  • Help analyze survey data management practices within BGCA to identify pain points and areas for improvement.
  • Investigate best practices for survey centralization and data integration.
  • Explore opportunities for integrating the survey platform (Alchemer) with other systems used within the organization and automation workflows.

  • Receive mentoring and shadowing opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the National Director, Measurement & Insights.
  • Demonstrate BGCA mission-driven values of integrity, excellence and inclusion and integrate into work environment.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA's Intern Policy, Ethics Policy and elsewhere.
