Responsibilities

Your key focus areas will include:

  • Building strategic partnerships with local leadership to grow individual giving and enhance overall resources.
  • Leading board development and providing strategic guidance to support organizational transformation.
  • Implementing safety assessments and risk management to maintain safe, impactful environments for youth.
  • Offering executive coaching and onboarding for new CEOs to ensure their success and longevity.

Provide Accountable Leadership to Autonomous Organizations

As the Director, Organizational Development, you will work closely with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Board Presidents across your service area to foster leadership and ensure organizations have the resources and tools necessary to achieve their strategic goals. Your role will be to build strong, trusting partnerships with new leaders, conducting thorough orientations on the services and resources available through BGCA.

Your leadership will focus on empowering these organizations to act with autonomy while remaining aligned with the larger mission. This includes helping clubs increase individual giving and other revenue streams, providing key guidance to Area Council leadership, and supporting them through leadership transitions. In this capacity, you will also ensure that child safety remains a top priority by promoting relevant resources and addressing safety concerns directly with local leaders.

Increase Organizational Capabilities

This role requires you to be a catalyst for organizational growth. You'll act as a key advisor to local leaders, developing long-term strategies that enhance their capabilities in areas such as leadership, risk management, and child safety. You'll ensure that every organization completes necessary assessments—like Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Standards of Organizational Effectiveness, and the Formula for Impact Assessment - so they can continuously improve and benchmark their progress.

You’ll play a critical role in promoting the professional development of key management staff, including CEOs, by identifying learning opportunities, encouraging participation in regional and national conferences, and supporting leadership training. Whether it’s board recruitment or transformation, you will provide hands-on, consultative support that aligns each organization with best practices in governance, development, and safety.

Support Strategic Growth and Increase Impact

Your role will extend beyond organizational development, as you will support the strategic growth of local clubs through technical assistance and on-site consultation. By guiding the establishment of new, self-sustaining sites, you will directly contribute to the expansion of BGCA’s mission and impact on youth.

You will also work with organizations to create and implement outcome-driven strategies that focus on enhancing the Club experience for members. This includes analyzing data to increase member participation and retention and ensuring that programmatic outcomes align with the overall goals of the BGCA Movement. In partnership with local leaders, you'll help clubs design strategic plans that develop leaders at all levels, ensuring a sustainable and impactful presence in their communities.

Additional Responsibilities

Your impact will not be confined to just one area. You will be called upon to participate in regional and national staff meetings, as well as contribute to the broader strategic initiatives of the organization. You’ll conduct face-to-face visits to ensure clubs are meeting key standards, offering hands-on support when needed to develop remediation plans and ensure continued excellence.

Beyond your specific region, you’ll be a vital part of organizational-wide projects, collaborating with your peers and BGCA senior leaders to drive excellence across the movement. You’ll be expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards, integrating BGCA’s core values of integrity, excellence, and inclusion into all aspects of your work. Whether conducting safety assessments or leading a strategic growth initiative, you will embody the mission-driven focus that defines BGCA’s work.

With travel opportunities up to 70%, you'll be on the frontlines of our movement, shaping the future of youth-focused organizations. This role will be an integral part of advancing our mission while building resilient organizations capable of lasting impact.

Qualifications

We are seeking someone who has:

  • Significant experience in the non-profit sector, preferably within leadership roles such as COO, CEO, or Chief of Staff.
  • A strong background in board relations, leadership coaching, and financial oversight for non-profits.
  • The ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on leadership, consulting, and partnership building.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or social services or education/experience equivalency required
  • Minimum five years’ experience in the management, administration and operation of a Boys & Girls Club (or similar organization) or seven years’ experience working in the field of organizational development and non-profit consulting

If you’re an organized, high-energy professional with excellent interpersonal skills, we encourage you to apply. Be part of something bigger by shaping the future of youth services and supporting the growth of resilient communities. Together, we can make a difference!
