As part BGCA’s Collective Impact Agenda, Future Ready, the Director, will support the strategic priority of organizational strength by helping to deepen statewide and regional collaborations and leverage strategic partnerships to support growth and program quality. The position has the responsibility for developing and managing the fundraising program in support of state and regional market strategies and assuring successful achievement of aggressive fundraising goals for partnerships. The National Director will guide the strategy for the annual base-level Foundation partnerships and grow collaborative proposals, with a focus on state and market-wide partnerships. The Director of Foundation Relations will supervise the Director of Foundation and Grant Development who supports base-level and market-focused partnerships.

 

This  Director will establish key metrics and annual goals to build a growth strategy focused on place-based funders in key state and markets aligned with BGCA collective impact initiatives and in collaboration with other Lines of Business.  The position will build a sustainable and robust pipeline of prospects and donors to support the collective impact work in collaboration with BGCA’s field operations and strategy teams to meet or exceed annual revenue goals.

 

The position will also maintain key high-level donor accounts to support this work, in addition to 40 primary foundation prospects. The position reports to the Managing Director, Foundations and Gift Management.

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and manage a fundraising program in support of state and regional market strategies as part the collective impact agenda for BGCA.
  • Build out statewide or cluster funding initiatives collaboratively, with cross functional departments and across Lines of Business.
  • Develop and support common goals to increase private philanthropy for Clubs across the Movement to pool resources and skills that will drive revenue generation and diversification, aiming to create a sustainable statewide/market-wide fundraising model for BGCA. 
  • Guide the strategy for annual base-level grants and renewals in support of organization-wide fundraising goals.
  • Identify and develop collaborative asks across BGCA programming and with local Clubs in identified state/regional focus areas.
  • Act as an intermediary for collective action to drive private philanthropy for Clubs in a market, state or region, including mission-driven support for the national office to continue to provide support to Clubs. 
  • Identify and manage approximately 40 primary foundation prospects through cultivation, portfolio management, fundraising requests and stewardship.
  • Create and manage annual goals, strategic planning, performance plans and forecasting for state/market prospects and base level funding
  • Ensure prospect activity and tracking activity in CRM.
  • Manage the budgeting, expense management and partnership with finance on the spend down of foundation grants.
  • Manage collaborative relationships in other BGCA LOBs, specifically, field facing staff, Youth Development, Partnerships, Finance and other Resource development teams.
  • Contribute to and aggressively implement the strategic plan to meet or exceed personal foundation fundraising goals, as well as the team goals.
  • Leverage President and CEO, CDO and Senior Vice President, Resource Development effectively and efficiently in managing foundation relationships.
  • Understand, articulate and engage in our evidence-based work to ensure the integration of that work into the foundation partnerships as part of our collective impact work.
  • Manage the donor relationship of grants received to ensure continued partnership and retention
  • Provide monthly updates on metrics and growth plan to leadership.
  • Directly manages the Director of Grant and Foundation Development.  May also monitor and coordinate the work of coordinators, administrative staff, temporary employees, contractors, consultants and student interns.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or education/experience equivalency. Master degree preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years demonstrated successful experience developing and stewarding a Foundation and major gifts portfolio.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing persuasive, clear, concise, and visually attractive proposals/reports preferably in a nonprofit or educational setting, such as appeal writing, grant writing, technical writing, or other equivalent written communication format
  • Experience closing six and seven figure asks with Big Bets and Foundations.
  • Experience planning meaningful strategic foundation and individual cultivation and stewardship initiatives.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams in multiple locations.
  • Management and supervision of teams and cross-functional workgroups.

 

SKILLS

  • Ability to strategically build new initiatives and programs in collaboration with cross-departmental teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and strategically work with foundations, board members and volunteers in resource development efforts.
  • Knowledge of successful foundation fundraising practices and policies.
  • Analytical and persuasive writing skills, including the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with energy, clarity, optimism, diplomacy, and integrity.
  • Excellent organizational, project planning and time management skills with careful attention to detail; Results oriented and fact-driven.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with emphasis on grant databases, project management software and donor database tools. Experience with Salesforce Donor Management Software preferred.
