We are searching for an experienced leader with a passion for non-profit organizational development to take on the role of Director Military Marketing.

 

LOCATION: Remote

 

The Role

Reporting to the VP Consumer Director Marketing, This is a full-time, 18-month project-based role dedicated to leading a comprehensive rehaul of the military marketing strategy in support of a nationally recognized youth development program. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing strategies to increase awareness, engagement, and support for the program. This includes leading efforts across brand management, content development, digital marketing, and strategic communications, with a strong focus on military-connected audiences.

 

In addition to leading this strategic effort, the candidate will be responsible for hiring and managing a temporary team to support the successful delivery of the initiative. The ideal candidate is a versatile, data-driven marketer with a deep understanding of military-related issues and audiences, a proven track record in project management, and the ability to both develop strategy and execute against it.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Brand  & Content Management:
    •  Develop and execute a comprehensive brand strategy, encompassing positioning, messaging, and visual identity, to enhance audience engagement and drive meaningful action.
    • Create and implement an engagement system to determine optimal touchpoints for connecting with target audiences, ensuring seamless communication across their journey from initial awareness to conversion.
    • Implement data-driven research tools and strategies to guide the development of engagement plans based on actionable insights.
  • Marketing Strategy Development:
    • Design and execute marketing strategies aligned with outcome-driven goals, ensuring measurable impact and consistent results.
    • Write compelling and actionable creative briefs to inspire and direct internal marketing teams and external agencies in the execution of high-impact campaigns.
    • Collaborate with agencies and internal teams to gather client-specific insights, leveraging competitive analysis, syndicated research, and customized data to drive creative and brand strategy initiatives.
    • Lead the creation and delivery of presentations—both independently and in collaboration with teams—that demonstrate the ability to synthesize research, data, and insights, resulting in actionable marketing strategies and innovative creative solutions.
  • Digital E-Commerce:
    • Lead the complete overhaul of the organization’s website by developing a clear vision and comprehensive strategy grounded in a thorough analysis of competitor sites, industry best practices, and current marketing trends. Spearhead the execution of this transformation, ensuring a seamless, engaging, and personalized audience-first experience with a strong emphasis on conversion optimization through data-driven improvements.
    • Lead the complete overhaul of the organization’s website by developing a clear vision and comprehensive strategy grounded in a thorough analysis of competitor sites, industry best practices, and current marketing trends. Spearhead the execution of this transformation, ensuring a seamless, engaging, and personalized audience-first experience with a strong emphasis on conversion optimization through data-driven improvements.
  • Content Creation & Management:
    • Lead the development of strategic, high-impact content across multiple platforms, including the website, social media, newsletters, and marketing materials. Ensure content is thoughtfully tailored to engage and resonate with military-affiliated audiences and supporters, driving brand awareness and audience loyalty.
  • Project Management:
  • Oversee and manage multiple high-priority projects with tight deadlines and concurrent workstreams, balancing leadership with active participation in execution. Ensure all project elements are informed by real-time data and analytics, making data-driven decisions to continuously optimize outcomes. Provide guidance and direction while maintaining hands-on involvement to ensure successful delivery and alignment with strategic goals.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree or graduate coursework in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of successful marketing experience, preferably within a non-profit organization. Experience with military-related organizations or audiences is required.
  • Creative Storyteller: Bring fresh, human-centered insights and cultural perspectives to the table, laying the foundation for innovative creative strategies and exceptional execution across all channels.
  • Strategic Connector: Leverage proven experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams, including media, technology, design, and creative, to develop and implement a cohesive communication architecture that drives impactful results.
  • Analytical Thinker & Research Translator: Utilize strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of research tools to translate data into actionable insights, ensuring strategies are grounded in real evidence and continuously refined for optimal outcomes.
  • Agency & Vendor Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading and supervising agencies, vendors, and collaborating with internal teams to deliver high-quality work that aligns with business objectives and drives results.
  • Military Culture Expertise: Strong understanding of military culture and issues, with experience working directly with military organizations or military-affiliated communities to ensure relevant, resonant strategies and content.​

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

  • ​​Familiarity with SEO, Google Analytics, and other digital tools is required.
  • ​Experience in sustaining strong working relationship with our military partner and support vendors.
  • Understand customer needs and preferences.  
  • ​Ability to drive performance and execute results; strategic and agile thinker to develop opportunities and strategies for organizational success toward objectives.
  • Manage budgets by allocating resources effectively
  • ​​Ability to maintain high integrity and judgment in times of complexity, uncertainty and change management. 

ENVIRONMENTAL & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Remote Work Environment
  • Overnight travel estimated at approximately 10%
