About the Role
The Senior Manager, Brand Media Relations plays a pivotal role in amplifying BGCA’s mission and elevating our national influence. Reporting to the National Director, External Communications, you will lead national media outreach, establish and nurture key media relationships, and secure high-profile coverage that positions BGCA as the foremost advocate for youth. Through your efforts, BGCA will strengthen its thought leadership on youth development and increase visibility for our work that impacts millions of young lives.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Lead National Media Relations:
    • Develop and execute media relations strategies to support BGCA’s national goals.
    • Proactively pitch high-impact stories to national media outlets (print, TV, radio, podcasts, and online) to increase BGCA’s visibility and influence.
    • Craft compelling press materials, including press releases, op-eds, and contributed articles, to help drive our message.
    • Build and maintain strong media relationships to secure strategic placements.
  • Brand Messaging and Media Strategy:
    • Partner with the National Director, External Communications to develop media strategies and messaging to support BGCA’s thought leadership and influence.
    • Ensure consistency in brand media messaging across various internal departments, including corporate partnerships, celebrity engagements and more.
  • Media Training and Leadership Support:
    • Provide media coaching to BGCA senior leadership and spokespeople.
    • Lead media relations efforts for high-visibility events and sensitive topics, ensuring BGCA’s leadership is well-prepared for media interactions.
  • Collaboration and Cross-Functional Coordination:
    • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications team and other BGCA departments to create a unified media strategy.
    • Coordinate efforts across teams to align media relations activities with BGCA’s broader goals and initiatives.
  • Tracking and Reporting:
    • Oversee media coverage tracking and reporting to measure impact.
    • Monitor industry trends, media landscapes, and best practices to inform and optimize PR efforts.

Qualifications

Who You Are

  • Experienced Communications Professional:
    • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in public relations or breaking news journalism with a strong focus on media relations and securing high-profile media coverage.
    • Proven track record of generating impactful media coverage that aligns with organizational goals.
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with proficiency in AP style.
  • Strategic Thinker & Relationship Builder:
    • Ability to proactively identify media opportunities and pitch compelling stories.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building and maintaining relationships with top-tier media contacts.
    • Comfortable advising senior leadership and providing media coaching.
  • Results-Driven Leader:
    • High level of initiative, creativity, and critical thinking.
    • Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines without compromising quality or attention to detail.
    • Experience handling sensitive topics and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Tech-Savvy:
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
    • Familiarity with media monitoring tools like Meltwater and PRNewswire.
