Overview

At Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we believe every child deserves a safe place to grow, a voice that’s heard, and a future full of possibility. As a national leader in youth development, we partner with local Clubs to empower nearly 5,000 communities and reach over 3.6 million young people annually. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

About the Role
As Director of Philanthropy, you’ll help fuel this movement by building relationships that drive transformational gifts. Reporting to the Senior Philanthropy Officer, you’ll cultivate a major gift portfolio and collaborate across the organization to elevate our national fundraising capacity. This role offers a unique opportunity to build upon a growing individual giving program while expanding our reach to new audiences—from event attendees to corporate partnership individuals, alumni, and cause-driven affinity groups.

You will be both a frontline fundraiser and a strategic partner, shaping how BGCA deepens donor connections and drives revenue through a comprehensive campaign. Your work will be instrumental in helping us meet our ambitious goals and ensure that Clubs across the country have the resources to change lives.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Manage a personal portfolio of 70–90 major gift prospects with a goal of raising $1M–$3M annually
  • Drive all stages of the donor lifecycle: identification, cultivation, proposal development, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Leverage data to forecast, track progress, and report on key performance indicators within our CRM (Salesforce)
  • Build and lead fundraising initiatives for affinity-based and strategic donor groups (e.g., alumni, celebrities, women philanthropists, vendors, in-kind donors)
  • Partner with Club leadership, including Regional VPs, Development Officers, and CEOs, to identify collaborative donor opportunities
  • Support and grow BGCA’s comprehensive campaign and donor pipeline
  • Champion a culture of accountability and collaboration through weekly team strategy and report-out sessions
  • Stay attuned to sector trends and innovations to continuously elevate fundraising strategy and execution

Qualifications

Who You Are
You are a relationship builder, strategic thinker, and confident fundraiser who knows how to turn passion into philanthropic partnerships. You’ve worked in high-stakes environments, driven six- and seven-figure gifts, and thrive in a mission-driven culture that centers equity, youth voice, and impact.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of progressive fundraising experience with a strong record of success in major gifts
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at the $10K+ level
  • Experience managing volunteer boards or committees in fundraising settings
  • Proven track record of closing high-level gifts and managing complex donor relationships
  • Proficiency with donor databases or CRM’s, Salesforce is preferred, Microsoft Office Suite, and donor research tools
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, including some weekends
