LOCATION: This position is on-site, office-based in Atlanta, GA (hybrid model - 3 days remote / 2 days in office- Tuesday & Wednesday)

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Foundations and Individuals Grants Manager serves as a strategic business partner to the External Relations team (RD and Marketing), with primary responsibility for overseeing financial management of grants, proposals, agreements, and ensuring revenue goals are met for the Foundations and Individuals teams. This role not only ensures compliance with GAAP and audit requirements, but also drives strategic insights that support the organization’s ability to raise and manage revenue effectively while ensuring maximum operating revenue is able to be recognized. The Foundations and Individuals Grants Manager independently manages cross-departmental relationships, provides financial guidance to senior leaders, and develops processes that strengthen grant management operational efficiency and long-term financial sustainability. Acting as both a thought partner and decision-maker, the Foundations and Individuals Grants Manager enables the External Relations team to maximize revenue opportunities, minimize risks, and meet donor expectations with excellence.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Grant & Revenue Management

  • Own the end-to-end grant budgeting, forecasting, and reporting process, ensuring alignment with program deliverables, donor expectations, and compliance requirements.
  • Own personnel budgeting, reporting, forecasting, and processing adjustments for grant portfolio.  Will need to be able to maintain strict confidentiality with personnel access for organization.
  • Partner with gift administration team to ensure accurate and timely recording of private revenue, including reconciliation of accounts, pledge balances, and payment schedules to minimize risk of write-offs for their grants.
  •  Develop, monitor, and present financial reports for leadership to support decision-making.
  •  Review proposal and agreement terms so that unfavorable payment terms, contingency and restrictive language is removed to optimize cash flow and maximize operating recognition.

Strategic Leadership & Decision-Making

  •  Serve as the primary financial liaison for the Foundations and Individuals team, with needing minimal to no reliance for supervisor approval to make financial and operational decisions that advance grant performance and revenue growth.
  • Partner with leadership to design financial strategies that directly support increased operating revenue and long-term sustainability.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to both RD and Marketing leadership, providing proactive insights, scenario planning, and solutions to optimize fundraising initiatives and managing risk to secured grants.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead coordination across Resource Development, Accounting, and other business units to ensure alignment of financial planning, reporting, and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong cross-departmental relationships, facilitating communication between finance, RD, Marketing and Field Operations leaders to drive shared accountability for grant outcomes and financials.
  • Provide training and guidance to non-financial staff to strengthen organization-wide financial literacy.

Operational Excellence & Innovation

  • Continuously evaluate and improve financial systems, reporting tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Anticipate risks and implement corrective actions proactively to ensure grant pacing aligns with both donor and organizational priorities.
  • Provide high-level financial presentations and recommendations to business partners and leadership.
  • Support ad hoc projects and special initiatives that strengthen financial performance and organizational capacity.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or accounting. Master’s degree a plus.
  • Minimum of five years of experience managing account or grant financials.

SKILLS

  • Thinks critically, evaluates assumptions, and maintains a keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, customer service, negotiation, consultative, and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint skills.

ABILITIES

  • Ability to exchange, clearly and concisely: ideas, facts, and/or technical information and guidance, in person, by telephone, or email.
  • Ability to apply problem solving and analytical skills to perform required responsibilities.
  • Ability to independently assume responsibility for the overall needs of the Accounting and Finance departments.
  • Physical requirements include sight, sitting for four plus hours a day, stooping; skills essential for successful communications including speaking and writing.
