Reporting to the National Vice President, Native Services Unit, the Director, Organizational Development (DOD), Native Services serves as a strategic advisor and organizational development consultant to Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian Country. This role partners closely with Tribal leaders, Boards of Directors, Chief Executive Officers, and Club leadership to strengthen organizational effectiveness, leadership capacity, governance, and long-term sustainability.

 

Through consultation, coaching, facilitation, and organizational development strategies, the Director helps Native organizations build stronger leadership teams, develop high-performing Boards, increase organizational capacity, improve operational effectiveness, strengthen resource development, and enhance youth outcomes. The Director serves as a trusted partner who ensures BGCA resources and services are delivered with deep respect for Tribal sovereignty, cultural traditions, and the unique history of Native communities.

Responsibilities

Organizational Consulting & Tribal Partnership

Serve as a trusted advisor to Native member organizations by building collaborative relationships that strengthen organizational health and long-term sustainability.

 

  • Build and maintain trusted partnerships with Tribal leaders, Tribal Councils, Board Chairs, Chief Executive Officers, and organizational leadership.
  • Serve as the primary organizational development consultant for assigned Native organizations.
  • Interpret BGCA priorities and resources while ensuring services are delivered with respect for Tribal sovereignty, customs, and cultural traditions.
  • Support the Native Advisory Committee (NAC) and Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian Country initiatives.
  • Promote BGCA child safety priorities and conduct Child & Club Safety assessments, monitoring remediation plans and responding to critical child safety situations as needed.
  • Connect organizations with BGCA subject matter experts and enterprise resources to address organizational needs.

 Leadership & Board Development

Strengthen organizational leadership by developing executive leaders, Boards of Directors, and Tribal partnerships that support long-term organizational success.

 

  • Coach Boards of Directors and executive leaders on governance, strategic leadership, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Support organizations in recruiting, onboarding, and transitioning Chief Executive Officers.
  • Build organizational leadership capacity through executive coaching, consultation, and facilitated planning.
  • Design and facilitate leadership development experiences, including the Native Advanced Leadership Program and New Executive Orientation.
  • Recruit, develop, and support Native Services National Training Associates.
  • Deliver workshops and presentations at local, regional, and national conferences.

Organizational Capacity & Sustainability

Partner with organizations to strengthen operational excellence, financial sustainability, and organizational effectiveness.

 

  • Facilitate organizational assessments and develop action plans that improve governance, operations, and leadership effectiveness.
  • Assist organizations in implementing financial management systems and sustainable operational practices.
  • Guide organizations in strengthening resource development strategies and diversifying funding sources.
  • Provide grants management education and technical assistance.
  • Support implementation of Formula for Impact while honoring Tribal customs and traditions.
  • Help organizations integrate key performance indicators and outcome measurement into strategic and operational decision making.

Growth Strategy & Organizational Effectiveness

Support sustainable organizational growth that expands opportunities and positive outcomes for Native youth.

 

  • Provide consultation to communities seeking to establish new Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian Country.
  • Assist organizations in increasing membership, improving average daily attendance, and expanding youth impact.
  • Develop organizational growth strategies that align with community needs and BGCA priorities.
  • Support strategic planning related to expansion, mergers, and organizational sustainability.
  • Help organizations build systems that improve long-term operational performance and community impact.

Enterprise Collaboration & Operational Excellence

Partner across BGCA to deliver consistent, high-quality consultation and organizational development services.

 

  • Conduct annual on-site organizational reviews and develop organization-specific action plans.
  • Participate in regional and national meetings, Native Summits, and enterprise initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional BGCA teams to deliver coordinated organizational support.
  • Monitor organizational progress and provide ongoing consultation to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate BGCA's I*CARE values in every interaction while serving as a trusted ambassador of the organization.

What You Bring 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Education, Social Services, Public Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience managing, consulting with, or supporting Native organizations, Boys & Girls Clubs, or comparable youth-serving organizations.
  • Demonstrated success working with Tribal governments, Boards of Directors, and executive leadership.
  • Experience in organizational development, governance, leadership coaching, strategic planning, and capacity building.
  • Strong understanding of Tribal sovereignty, Tribal governance, and the diversity of Native communities.
  • Experience facilitating leadership development, organizational assessments, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and virtual collaboration technologies.

Travel

  • Approximately 60–70% travel, including overnight and weekend travel. Monthly travel may extend to 12–14 days based on organizational needs.
  • Valid driver's license required.
